Happy Faces

These young nuns will be part of the future of Burma/Myanmar.  What that will be is largely unknown, but it is likely to be poor and bereft of human rights.
They look happy and bright in their robes, but where are their families and why have they entered a communal life at such a young age and where and for how long will they be educated???
Too many questions.

A development opportunity

The colonial buildings of  Yangon still stand, but are in very poor condition.  Most are still lived in, but would welcome development.  An opportunity for some one with deep pockets and a vision of restoration.  I fear they may be ripped down and replaced with concrete monstrosities.

A not so busy barber

It was a Saturday afternoon, so maybe all his clients were home for the weekend, but this barber shop in "Little India" in Yangon did not look very busy.

Sorting Greens

We rode the "Circle Line" train around Yangon for three hours.  It stopped frequently and locals boarded and disembarked with their provisions and good from the market garden.  This lady was mesmerizing as she sorted the green leaves of her herbs.  Leaves were trimmed and then bunched and discarded leaves were put into her hat and then thrown out the window when the hat was full.

Buddha's Eyes and Eyelashes

The Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda in  Yangon is known for its  reclining Buddha.  At 65 meters long and 16 meters high, its huge. No need for mascara on those eyelashes.

Monks visiting Shwedagon Pagods

The Shwedagon Paya temple complex was very busy on the Saturday afternoon we visited. These monks were proudly standing in front of the chedi having a group photo taken and were happy to pose for one more photo by a mad Australian.

Bright Umbrellas

Umbrellas are a necessity in Myanmar's wet season.

A visit to Yangon

While I am no longer in Asia, but home and now in the US on "summer break"  I thought I would share some of my experiences in Yangon with my loyal blog followers over the next two weeks.  Photos will be coming to your in box every second day rather than every day, so you can have a break too.
Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon is amazing.  While I have already posted about it,
it is so fantastic there will be more photos such as these with me in front of the gold dome of the chedi.
