Hoi An Street Scene

The streets of Hoi An were busy, mainly with tourists, but this bride dressed in red (along with her husband in his white suit) stood out as they strolled around with members of the bridal party and their photographic entourage.

Vietnam Telecom,

Electrical wiring in Laos is chaotic, but it is at its most tangled extreme in Vietnam. I spent the weekend with my cousin Cathryn and her daughter Meg, in Hoi An,  as part of there three week visit to Vietnam.

We examined this tangle as I enjoyed a flat white on the balcony of a great coffee shop in the old city of Hoi An.

The Back View

A truck on the way to the market - safety lights on the mud guards, spare tires, lunch tied to the back and multi coloured crates of vegetables - ready to go.

Sunset and Moonrise

Sunset last week, looking over the Mekong to Thailand, from my favourite riverside bar/shanty.

Dumplings and Dolls and Dancing

Friday night was a crazy and fun night at a Russian restaurant, Privet.  The food was great and the hospitality welcoming and entertaining with singing and some traditional dancing. A few vodkas, courtesy of a French man a the next table, who was celebrating his birthday, made  the eventing extra fun.

Fried vegetables

I pass this lady most afternoons on my way home, but have yet to try her speciality.  Its a fried vegetable thing on a stick - not sure - maybe one day. She spends most of her time peeling veggies.

Motorbike repair shop

A typical street side scene in Vientiane and a typical business. It's easy to find  a small mechanic's shop for motor bikes and scooters,  like this one,  on most streets.

Temple Gate

The front gate to my favourite morning temple.  I love the colours and the mismatch of textures.

Temple at Dawn

One of the good things about our early morning bike rides is the changing dawn light.  It  gives this temple a gentle cream hue.

Back on the Mekong

The weather has been autumnal, lovely cool mornings and crisp evenings with gentle light on the Mekong.

The florist - Laos style

While not really a florist, these road side stalls do sell flowers. These marigold and jasmine floral offerings are sold to people for their spirit houses or to put in temples.  Business was very busy when I stopped to take photos with many people stopping off their scooters to choose a special arrangement.

Marigolds for Mailai

The blog is back for 2018 offering a floral garland- or mailai - for the New Year.
